Satva, Raj and tam Gun of Planets

Satva, Raj and Tam are basic nature of human nature. Satva signifies purity, transparency, the kindness and empathy. Raj means ego, jealous, and helping with a motive and Tam is selfishness, shrewdness, darkness, ignorance, lethargy, inaction.

Ours planets have also been divided into Satva, Raj and Tam Gun. It has been told by Maharishi Parashara in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastram that Jupiter, Sun and benefic Moon are of Satva Guna, Mercury and Venus belongs to Rajo Guna and Saturn and Mars are of Tamo Guna.

Planets and Panch Tatva

According to Ayurveda, human body is made up of five elements, which are also known as Pancha Bhoota - Pancha means Five and Bhoota means elements. These five elements are: Akash, Vayu, Agni, Jal and Prithvi. In Astrology, each of the seven planets represents specific Panch Bhoota, which are as under :

• Sun and Mars represents fire element.

• Moon and Venus represents water element.

• Mercury represents earth element.

• Jupiter represents sky element.

• Saturn represents Vayu element.

Dhatu, Mool and Jeeva Division of the Planets

Rahu, Mars, Saturn and the Moon represents Dhatu, Sun and the Venus represents Moola and Mercury, Jupiter and Ketu represents Jeeva.

Planets and Tissues of Body

Maharishi Parashara in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastram tells that bones are ruled by the Sun, blood by the Moon, marrow by Mars, skin by Mercury, fat by Jupiter, reproductive fluid by Venus and muscle by Saturn.

Planets and their caste

Maharishi Parashara further tells that Jupiter and Venus belongs to Brahmin group and Jupiter is superior than Venus. Sun and Mars belongs to Kshatriya group, and Sun is superior than Mars. Moon and Mercury and Vaisya and Moon is generous Vaishya and Mercury is miser Vaishya Saturn, Rahu and Ketu are Sudras.

Acharya Varahmihir in Brihat has considered Mercury as Vaishya and Saturn as Ati Sudra.

There is no classification of Rahu and Ketu in Brihat Parashara Hora, Brihat Jatak as well as Phal Dipika

Planets and their Taste

Sun governs the bitter taste, Moon governs the Saline taste, Mars governs the spicy taste, Mercury governs the mix taste, Jupiter governs the sweet taste, Venus governs the sour taste and Saturn governs the astringent taste.

The 2^nd house of the horoscope represent the pretence in food. The planets influencing the 2^nd house and its lord will throw light on the food preference of the person.
